A Line in Relation to My Body

Image
I really enjoyed this project, I took inspiration from Roman Ondak's project Measuring the Universe , 2007. I asked close friends and acquaintances to place their hand on the work with different configurations of paint. Funnily enough this idea came to me while I was reading my partner's palm. The lines of our palm are unique to every individual. I chose to use magenta, blue, and yellow because I figured it would mix on the page well with all the layers of the hands. This piece is a mix of performance and abstraction, and I couldn't be happier with it! I'm truly grateful for everyone who contributed to this piece. My favorite part is that I had a lot of people tell me how much fun it was to participate in this project, people got to embrace their inner child and have fun with some finger painting.

Figuring out Ink Wash

These are all the incomplete and explorations I did in class and on my own time. Some of these pieces demonstrate how I truly struggled with this assignment, the size and quantity was overwhelming for me, and the time crunch to complete the work took the enjoyment out of the project for me. I also struggled to trust the ink at first which made creating the pieces so difficult. I don't really like how my portraits of people turned out, I struggled with them quite a bit, in part cause I didn't understand how to do it, but also because I started to really question my artistic ability and almost felt like giving up entirely. However, I will admit I am glad I stuck with it, because I really like how some of these pieces turned out (I'll make a post with the final products). I also really enjoyed seeing everyone's pieces collaged together in the exhibition, it was truly captivating.
